About the MIC Meeting
The Midwest Islet Club (MIC) Meeting is an annual gathering of pancreatic islet biologists from across the Midwest. This two-day meeting will feature an exciting line-up of trainee and junior faculty talks and a poster session, with ample opportunities to share and discuss the latest findings in islet research. Danielle Dean, PhD
2024 Robert L. Sorenson Young Investigator Award Recipient
The recipient of the 2024 Robert L. Sorenson Young Investigator Award is Danielle Dean, PhD, assistant professor of Medicine and Molecular Physiology & Biophysics at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Dean’s research focuses on the role of the liver-alpha cell axis in regulating islet cell growth and contributing to liver and alpha cell dysfunction in obesity and diabetes.
Rohit Kulkarni, MD, PhD
2024 Paul E. Lacy Award Recipient
Rohit Kulkarni, MD, PhD, is recipient of the 2024 Paul E. Lacy Award — the highest award given by MIC to honor highly meritorious career achievement in the field of islet biology. Dr. Kulkarni is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Margaret A. Congleton Chair and Co-Head of the Section on Islet & Regenerative Biology at Joslin Diabetes Center. His research focuses on growth factor signaling pathways in islet cells and on differentiating induced pluripotent stem cells from living human donors into beta cells for transplantation.
